While some scholars argue that the Umayyads did not intend a full-scale invasion, the battle nonetheless had long-lasting geopolitical consequences. Charles Martel’s victory solidified his reputation and laid the foundation for the Carolingian Empire, which would later be ruled by his grandson, Charlemagne. The battle also contributed to the divide between Islamic and Christian civilizations in medieval Europe, influencing centuries of conflict and cooperation between the two worlds.
