How long has it been since the Foundation of the Katipunan (KKK)?

The Katipunan, officially called the Kataastaasang Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (Supreme and Venerable Association of the Children of the Nation) and abbreviated as KKK, was a revolutionary organization established in 1892 by Filipino nationalists Deodato Arellano, Andrés Bonifacio, Valentin Diaz, Ladislao Diwa, José Dizon, and Teodoro Plata. Its main goal was to secure independence from Spanish rule through armed rebellion. Initially operating as a secret society, the Katipunan was eventually discovered by Spanish authorities in August 1896, triggering the outbreak of the Philippine Revolution.

Historians generally date the organization's founding to July 1892, shortly after José Rizal, a key figure in the Filipino nationalist movement, was arrested and exiled to Dapitan, Mindanao. Rizal had earlier founded La Liga Filipina, which sought peaceful reforms and Filipino representation in the Spanish Parliament. Many members of the Katipunan, including Bonifacio, were also part of this organization. However, newly discovered documents suggest that the Katipunan may have existed as early as January 1892, though it only became active by July of the same year.
